The study of the effects regarding the reduction of public psychiatric beds from 2005 to 2010. I compare the suicide rate and the reduction of mental health availability across states. I find as the availability of public psychiatric beds decreases, the suicide rate increases. I control for per capita income and per capita mental health care expenditures. Overall, my findings suggest an increase in public psychiatric beds leads to a decrease in the suicide rate.
