Description
This short article describes a protest march by the priest Jesús Olmedo from the city of La Quiaca. He and a group of mostly women and children marched from La Quiaca to the capital of the province of Jujuy. The organizers of the march described it as motivated by the “grave social situation” of the region of Jujuy. The marchers hoped to speak with the provincial governor Walter Barrionuevo and to demand from him “a clarification of the repression” going on and to demand answers to petitions submitted since April of that year. Directors of the various social organizations that took part described the march as part of a struggle against poverty and a struggle for good jobs and health.
