Item Blast From the Past: Soaring Real Estate Prices Remind Homeowners of Darker Days(2022-10-14) Beeding, CassidyItem Blast From the Past: Soaring Real Estate Prices Remind Homeowners of Darker Days(2022-10-14) Beeding, CassidyItem Climate Change, Urban Planning, and Real Estate in Harris County(2024-01) Buzzetti, NatalieThis thesis investigates the intricate relationship between climate change, urban planning, and real estate development, with a focused lens on Harris County. As climate change intensifies, real estate faces unprecedented challenges due to rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and shifting temperature patterns. Hurricane Harvey serves as a significant case study, illuminating the vulnerabilities and complexities inherent in real estate development amidst climate disruption. Through a comprehensive literature review, this research explores the critical themes of sustainability and resilience, emphasizing the need for their integration into real estate practices. While existing literature underscores the importance of sustainability and government policies, a gap exists regarding the role of community networks and social factors in building resilience. This research aims to bridge this gap by delving into community dynamics, policy limitations, and the significance of collaboration, providing practical insights and real-world perspectives for researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals. Key research articles, including studies on supply chain resilience post-disaster and social and economic barriers to infrastructure recovery, inform this exploration. Additionally, insights into the performance of coastal residential buildings under hurricane conditions offer valuable lessons for resilient real estate development. By synthesizing these contributions and posing critical research questions, this thesis aims to guide future inquiry into climate-resilient real estate development, offering a roadmap for navigating the complexities of a changing climate in urban planning and real estate sectors.Item Comunidades indigenas-Posesion y propiedad de tierras por los pueblos indigenas(0000-00-00) UnknownItem ESG and Real Estate(2023) McCabe, JackAfter observing the enormous and rapidly growing pressure on humanity to slow the pace of climate change over recent years, I decided to explore the intersection of sustainable investing and the commercial real estate industry in this research project. I’m interested in real estate as a career after graduation and found that real estate is one of the most impactful sectors when it comes to global warming. Buildings are responsible for more than 40% of greenhouse gas emissions globally. In creating a more environmentally-friendly world over the coming decades, everybody involved in the real estate industry will need to play an active role in designing and executing this vision. The massive influx of capital to investments weighing environmental, social, and governance considerations has created an exciting, yet still relatively unknown, atmosphere for the world of commercial real estate. In exploring this subject, I first wanted to examine how real estate and ESG investing principles are currently interacting. What is working? What is not? Does working mean financial performance or environmental performance? Maybe a balance of the two? What is slowing progress down? Where does the future seem to be headed? I’m going to break down the issues, answer these questions, and think through solutions - i.e., the best paths forward for regulators, developers, owners, operators, and anybody else involved in the crossover between real estate and a greener future.Item On the Roof: A Review of Texas Real Estate Markets(Bureau of Business Research, The University of Texas at Austin, 2007-12) Anari, Ali; Gaines, James; Gilliland, CharlesAs housing prices slip in many parts of the country, Texas market conditions, in general seem relatively stable.
