    The retention of Latinx teachers in an urban school context : a Racialized Organization Theory analysis

    The purpose of this study is twofold. First, the general purpose is to examine the lack of Latina/o/x public school teachers in the Austin Independent School District (AISD). Second, identify and examine the individual, school, and organizational factors that create barriers to retaining Latinx maestra/o/x. In this research study, Racialized Organization Theory (ROT) is used to examine the colonial matrix of power at work within the schooling system in the U.S. as it pertains to the systematic exclusion of Latinx teachers. Utilizing qualitative methods, this research case study includes plàticas from Latinx public school teachers to gain insight into how they can be retained and sustained. Other sources of data include documentation analysis, journal writing, and memoing. Findings have implications for school leaders and policymakers who seek to improve teacher retention for Latinx teachers in urban public schools throughout the U.S.
