The John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies (CAAAS) is dedicated to the intellectual, political, artistic, and social development of people of African descent throughout Africa and the African Diaspora. Critical race theory, queer theory and black feminism inform our commitments to activist scholarship and creative productions that foster social justice. We train our students in critical thinking, writing, political discourse, community organizing, and civic and popular culture. Supporting faculty, collaborating with University staff and community organizations, the Center works to further the global investigation and enhancement of black life through local, national, international and digital-based initiatives.
