M. A. bar­ racks at the intersection of Nine­ teenth Street and East Avenue may become the possession of the Uni­ versity if the Legislature passes a substitute hill which will probably he brought up in the Senate Friday in the place of a bill introduced Feb­ ruary l l by Senator Edgar E. Witt of Waco, and reported on adversely by the committee on education. The committee substitute bill pro­ vides that the University is to he given title to the above mentioned property, consisting of outlots sixty- four and seventy-one, division E of the city of Austin, with the exception of all furnishings, fixtures and equip­ ment, which the Board of Control is authorized to use in any other state institutions where needed. The orig­ inal bill submitted by W itt gave the University all improvements such and furnishings as well as the prop­ erty. Further provision is made, however, that the Board of Control will have the power to use the buildings as a hospital for aged persons of unsound mind until August I, after which date all such patients must be removed and the title to the property surrendered to the University.
