STATE PRESS MAKES COMMENT ON RECENT EDITORIAL IN TEXAN (Continued from Page Two) Or does it expect some service in re tu r n ? If so, what kind of service? th a t from require One way to promote the welfare of the state, let us not forget, is for the individual to enlarge his activities in one line, or more, of legitimate busi ness. A main trouble with some Uni versity men, particularly some from certain great schools which seem to in political uplift, have specialized is the they come away commencement exercises with a yearn ing to become intellectual lighthouses, or sociological show windows. They are too keen for propaganda and not keen enough for m aterial productivity. Of course such roles small capital to finance them, and th a t fact is partly to be blamed or credited with their popularity. The young man just out of school, with no decision formed as to what his life work shall be, is excusable for failing as soon as possi ble into some line where he doesn’t have to invest much. And if he can make his way around the world by doing research work and gathering data, who shall severely reprimand him ? But may it not be worth while to remind the University men once in a while th a t higher education is very much needed in agriculture, stock farm ing, railroading, newspapering, banking, m anufactur ing and all the kindred fields of busi ness and industry? The man who en larges his operations from time to time, to the extent of employing more people, building bigger workrooms, raising larger crops, extending his trade or improving the quality of his product, is rendering a fine service to his State. State Press is so favorable to big business t h a t he believes the man who succeeds in building a great industrial institution from small be ginning is doing service a t least equal to his brother who succeeds in landing a big political office. Fine thinking is much to be commended. But creative labor is not to be sneezed at.— State Press, in the Dallas News. storekeeping, E ditor’s Note: The following article, written by N. A. The University of Minnesota has de voted most of its efforts during the last few years to the business of growing. To meet the situa tion, the University has recently ac quired additional p roperty virtually doubling the size of the campus, and is now well advanced in the construc- ! tion of new buildings for the E ngin eering, Medical and other profession al colleges. The campus borders on the Mississippi river near the fam ous St. Anthony Falls, and will pre sent a beautiful and imposing a p p ear ance when the present plans are car ried to completion. Other things, however, are being done a t Minnesota besides merely pro viding accommodations for the influx of new students.
