In the year ending duced A u g u st J I, Texas production totaled about L O U million barrels. There are now 13 3 ,800 producing oil w ells in Texas. Reserves — Proved oil reserves in T exas o f 18 billion barrels represented ?7 per cen t o f the U . S. to tal at the beginning o f 195 2 . D uring 1951, the last year for w h ich figures are available, proved re­ serves increased tw o billion barrels. These are dei eloped oil reserves and the figure is im portant: developed reserves supply our needs currently and provide reserve ca­ pa city that is im m ediately available w hen w e need it. R e fin in g — The T exas refineries w ill have a big year. T hey now em ploy, in round num bers, 4 6 ,0 0 0 T exans, and process about 28% o f all the oil refined in the U . S. T h e daily refining capacity o f all Texas refineries exceeds 2 ,0 0 0 ,0 0 0 barrel'. A program to expand and im prove these facilities has been general th rou gh ou t the industry.
