T he w ork of construction had h ard ly s ta r te d before an obstacle in the sh a p e of w a te r m a in s was discov­ ered. On f u r t h e r e x a m in a tio n it w as found t h a t a whole ne tw o rk of pipes underlaid the head c ou rt, and t h a t th e cost of low ering th e se pipes would be prohibitive. H ere th e w o r k ­ men uncovered a sew er system , and a f t e r calculation it w as found neces­ sary to raise t h a t c o u rt also. As soon as w ork s ta r te d on th e lower ourts, th e g r e a t e s t difficu lty of all w as encountered. An old boiler foundation, built of solid concrete and ex te n d in g into th e g ro u n d six feet, offered a very s u b s ta n tia l hin d ran c e to successful plowing. A c o n tra ct h a s ju st been made calling fo r th e d y n a ­ miting of the obstacles. T hese c h a n g e s have delayed the work v e ry m a te ria lly and have n ecessitated a s e p a r a te t e r ­ race fo r each of th e six courts.
