By a d o p t­ ing th e p e rm a n e n t m an ag er plan th e .students would still choose th e m a n a g e r but in a d ifferen t way. The proposed plan overlooks one vital essential of a successful plan in t h a t it does not provide a quick and p racticable way of d isch a rg in g an u n s a tis fa c to ry m an ag er. In fact, selected m a n ­ a g e rs can not be discharged, they m u st be recalled, and recall pro­ ceedings would be too slow and im practicable. T hus, th e m an ­ a g e r would feel safe. There is an agitation at the Uni- ' ersit\ of Nebraska for the adoption of the Single Tax. The two chief aigu m en ts given in its favor by the editor of the Nebraskan are: F irst, it will equalize the burden of that suppoit of student activities; and, sec­ ond, that it will increase student in­ terest. It is contended that a num­ ber of activities are supported by only a few students while all g e t the bene­ fit. The Daily Nebraskan, in­ stance, has only 500 subscribers out of a student body of 3500. The 500 support are “m oochers.” This is true of ath letics, “m ixers,” debates, and other related activities.
