A number o f changes have been made, some experim entally and others as a result of apparent flaw s in the 1950 system . A t any rate, this fa ll’s program bids to become a broader and better show with a more tangible purpose. D espite its obvious grow ing pains, Great Issues should prove within a few years to be one of the greatest things that has ever happened in Texas education. W hy? Sim ply because the course demon strates student push and student w illing ness to seek knowledge outside the beaten paths. Slightly more than a month rem ains of the time allotted for fin ish in g course plans, since the opening lecture has tentatively been scheduled for early October. It would be very desirable if the program could be again held in the fall, the season of few er conflicts and student activities. I f the tentative program for this fall were to collapse, which is a disturbing yet very evident possibility, it is hoped that student in itiative will not slacken but will strive for an even better program in the spring. Great Issues m ust rem ain non-accredited for at least two more years, but it should not be shunted aside because of any tempo rary setback. I f s too good to lose Z b o lL s’ W ord U niversity sum m er entertainm ent has never been, is not now, and probably never will be on a par w ith that offered in the fall. Yet people complain because the bigname speakers, name bands, and theater perform ers are virtually all brought here during the long session at the exclusion o f the summer. True, but considering low en rollment, intensified classroom work, and above all a very bare budget, sum m er school students are fortunate to have a pro gram as good as the current one. All things considered, i f s a big dollar’s worth.
