Having studied with a wide range of teachers from Adolf Bolm and Mikhail Fokin to modern dance choreographer Doris Humphrey, and having received her education from the University of Chicago, Ann Barzel has been a dance critic and historian for many years for the Chicago Times, the Chicago American, Dance News, Dance Index, and Dance Magazine. She is also well known for her private collection of ballet films, a selection of which she showed and discussed at the dance celebration. She and her films were recently seen in the popular 2006 film, "Les Ballets Russes"
