T au t and highly suspenseful, this film brings Montgomery to the serious characterization of a murderer. Miss Russell, placid as ever, yet develops a merited role of the fear-stricken woman who breaks through to Montgomery’s innermost thoughts, observes that he is acting well to hide the m ur der he has committed. The Emlyn Williams play has been skillfully handled before the cameras. Many anti-climaxes have been reached which hold the audi ence in suspense and wonderment at what Montgomery will do. Dame May Whitty has played her role excellently. Aside from Russell and Montgomery, the cast is British, but each member is con sistently in good characterization. — P.A.
