It is wondered what critics over the State will now find to use in their efforts to belittle campus and school. Those who are informed know the shacks were built in 1918 to meet an emer gency created by the great strides of prog r e s s made by the University, and only now has it been possible to con ( r u e t t i l t i n g cl arts- room buildings to re place them. that M ature Freshm en FIVE YEARS AGO almost all freshmen wore Choi r green caps whenever they made an appearance iii public. Three years ago a great portion of them still wore their caps; but today the percentage of freshmen with green caps is very small. The freshman of to day seem to have lost the distinctness as a class that was present a generation of stu dents ago. Until recent years, the University was a young school, barely out of its adolescence. The spirit was that of a small school, in which evt ry student knew all the others, and the class distinctions were very marked* Some five years ago the spirit of the school changed: tin class lines which had been made evident through hazing began to dim. Haz ing was made taboo and now the freshmen are not made the butt of the jokes of those who know t Ic ) opes. Every year tile feeling that the student is a part of a college in the University, rather than a member of a class, is becoming more prevalent. The students feel themselves more as students in business administration, or engineering, or pharmacy, mon' than they feel that they are freshmen or sophomores or juniors. Th*- Constitution of the Students' Associ ation makes provision for the election of six representatives from the College of Arts and i S c i e n c e s , three from the School of Business I Administration, from the* School of Education, four from the College of Engin eering, three from the School of Law, one I from the College of Pharmacy, one* from the : departme nt of .journalism and one from the i Graduate School. three The Student Assembly is an important or ganization. Diminished SOME OF US in that stressful period in the month when the allowance has been c o n - 1 sumed and a wistful gaze is turned toward the first of the month following. Tempora rily the wheels of commerce about the cam- j pus turn slowly, for a few days there is some ; lull in the money-spending activities of the campus inhabitants. The time is now spent j in discovering the various and sundry chan nels through which Dad’s cash will pass hurriedly during tin first days of the fol lowing month. And then it will all be gone and the same predicament will face those who splurge for , a few days then squeeze and squirm as has been done at the same time in each of the i many preceding months. It is wondered howl it would feel to be sensible at least one time, j and to spread tin* hamburgs! nu‘at over the whole bun, to make the allowance last the whole month. It would be a decided ch an g e; it would save these days of being broke and hungry. H ousem others WHEN THE (HRL comes to the Univer sity, released from the parental apron-strings and is cast into the cosmopolitan swirl and counter-swirl of a University she is in for moments of panic and th* feeling that she is a rudderless ship unless there is s o m e kind ly and steadying influence to help her over the rough spots.
