Those who have transferred from military schools and feel that they do better in military togs might be given a chance to return to their element. The officer has a better chance of coming out of war alive than does a private. What's to be lost by letting a measly IOO students a year get a lease on life— no matter if actions in so doing are moti vated by a conservative fear of lofting life? We are one of six state universities without an R. (). T. C. That, as has been said, is one way of looking at the proposition. H er e’s another w’ay: The seeds of militarism were established in the Ameri can universities by means of “ pomp and circumstance" in the period immediately following the last great war. And, like all seeds, the seeds of militarism are subject to growth. The fact that thirty-six of the forty-two state universities in the United States have R. (). T. C. units and the tha t the University does not, casts no reflection on University. It establishes no inherent reason why The University of Texas should feel itself back wa rd in this re gard. It merely indicates that the seeds of militarism have sprouted roots and branches, and in some instances full- grown trees, in thirty-six institutions in the United States. Militarism has extended its influence to t h a t extent. f o r T H E E X A M I N A T I O N t h e Br o wn U n i v e r s i t y m a t h e m a t i c a l e n t r a n c e pri zes will be held S a t u r d a y a f t e r n o o n , O c t o b e r 12, a t 2 o ’clock in W a g g o n e r Hall 101.
