Walter Terry, A New York City native, received his B.A. in Drama from the University of North Carolina, and took dance classes with a wide variety of teachers. He was a dance critic for over 40 years with The Boston Herald, New York Herald Tribune, Saturday Review, and elsewhere. The author of numerous books, including "I Was There: An Anthology of Reviews", "Dance in America", and several dance biographies, he also contributed to the Encyclopedia Britannica and other publications, and was a recipient of the Capezio Dance Award in 1980. At the dance celebration, he took part in the panel on writing about dance, and he led the panel on American ballet theater.
