In observing this Independence Day with us, you do my country high honoro Your annual meeting in Rebild on the Fourth of July is a unique expression of the close and abiding friendship between our two countries and peoples.. On beha-f of all Americans I express to you our heartfelt gratitude. Having visited your progressive land two years ago with Mr so Johnson, we have pleasant memories of the friendli­ness of your people and the beauty of your countryside. We remember weil the generous welcome and cordiality of all the Danish people.. We in America have long admired the industry and inventive­ness of the Danish people. Through the years many of them have settled here and become a part of our community. We know them for their achievements on the farm, in the factory, in the scien""ific laboratory and for their artis:ic and literary talents. For their contribution to the building of America, we are very gr-'.:eful. It is heartening to know thac one of your countrymen paid high tr.bute to the memory of Abraha.n Lincoln by having a 100' cabin erected in the Rebild hills. From all over the 0 Union logs were selected and shipped to Denmark so that a visitor in the Park today may pay his respect to one of the world's great humanists.
