Mr. President, Please accept my sincere thanks for the first television photograph of Mars taken from the Mariner IV spacecraft which you were kind enough to send me. This very interesting picture has filled me with the deepest admiration for the skills and efforts displayed by the scientists and engineers who have made possible this u­nique flight. Please accept my warmest congratulations on this achievement which is a triumph not only for the United States of America but for all mankind in its ex­ploration of the universe.
