Opening Monday night at 8 in Hogg Auditorium and running through Wednesday, the play is di re cte d by Dr. Fred erick J . Hun ter, a newcomer to the University drama staff. ★ The play itself is concerned with the affairs of a retired French | general, a nagging wife, two dau ghters, and the memory of a ro mantic experience of 17 years be fore. Suddenly the girl from his memory appears . . . and you can | attend the play. j Winner of the New York C ritic’s Circle award, the ironic, sophisti cated comedy was successful on ‘Broadway. One critic called it “ a barbarious comedy with a wordly i viewpoint.” I "T ile Waltz of the Toreadors” is the second Anouilh play that Dr. in Summer Hunter has directed theater, having produced "R in g Around the Moon” at Berkeley. Anouilh is Dr. H unter’s favorite modern playwright. The dram a professor believes that Anouilh "is a serious minded dramatist, and writes enlightening as well as en tertaining plays.” Dr. Hunter joined the U n ive r sity dram a department staff as an assistant professor of dram a in September 1957. Before coming to the U niversity, he was an assist ant professor at Whitm an College. lecturer at W alla W alla, Wash., the U niversity of California, Santa Barbara, and assistant professor at the U niversity of Oregon.
