Title: Afro-Colombian Property Rights
Author: Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice
Abstract: The Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice sponsored a spring break fact-finding mission to Colombia from March 10-18, 2007 to study Afro-Colombian human rights issues. The trip resulted in a report, "Unfulfilled Promises and Persistent Obstacles to the Realization of the Rights of Afro- Colombians: A Report on the Development of Ley 70 of 1993" submitted to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and a memorandum, "Afro-Colombian Human Rights: The Implications for U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement," submitted to the United States Congress. Both the report and the memorandum are provided in English and Spanish. A summary of the report is also provided in Spanish. This research project is part of a larger, comparative project that examines Afro-descendant land rights in Latin America, particularly Brazil and Ecuador.
