Abstract: This paper looks at SPeAR (Sustainable Project Appraisal Routine), the standard created by the architectural design firm Arup to benchmark sustainability in architectural projects. It examines the practical application of SPeAR in evaluating three projects: the San Francisco Federal Building, the California Academy of Sciences, and Dongtan, a planned Eco-City to be constructed near Shanghai, China.
